At Walkwood Church of England Middle school we recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term healthy active lifestyles and making a positive impact on physical, mental and social health. We also understand that it should inspire pupils to succeed, develop confidence, build character and provide them with competitive opportunities. The skills, attitudes and values developed through PE are those which will help prepare for the next levels of learning but also be successful within the community and wider school setting.
Sports Premium is allocated government grant which is used to help make additional and sustained improvements to the provision of Physical Education and sport for primary aged pupils (Years 5 and 6 for our school). The premise is that, as a school, the provision will help to encourage healthy, active lifestyles as a result of providing a positive experience and hopefully encourage lifelong participation.
There are 5 criteria where improvements can be made:
• Key indicator 1: The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that primary school pupils undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school
• Key indicator 2: The profile of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
• Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
• Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
